Need care/referral rejected

I have called for three weeks to see a PCP and get an approval to see a ortho. After three week of being in pain and in a wheelchair, I am still getting the runaround trying to seek care. This is the by far the worse insurance I have ever received. It's been three weeks without any healthcare at all. The PCPs listed on your website is out of date and no longer accepting insurance. So now what do I do?

Aetna medicare website blocks the use of password managers

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
the aetna medicare website blocked my password manager from trying to paste in a securely generated password when trying to change my password. The website even asks people to choose a strong password, and it's hilarious that the recommended way of doing so in 2023 is blocked. Perhaps something could be done to stop health care plans from doing things like this. People will likely just choose insecure passwords when forced to manually type in every single character.

Still fighting to get Aetna to actually pay what they're supposed to, now they've deleted documents from their intennal portal

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I've been working on appealing Aetna failing to cover a pre-authorized procedure (that I had to go through their full review process to get pre-approved for coverage), and then they just decided, after I had gotten the surgery... to not cover most of it. This left me with a $40k bill. I appealed through their process, and they said they'd fix it and... then they didn't. When I went back to the secure portal to get those messages for evidence, they had all been removed. Seriously, the level of scam that Aetna is just keeps going.

This company has lousy service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Was needing to contact their representatives for some ongoing issues, their times were scheduled from 4am to 7pm for my zipcode, and I called at 4pm, and their service claimed to be past business hours. They've been scummy, violate rules, don't do what they're legally required to actions, and are a scam pretending to be an insurance company.

The worst billing and customer service I've ever encountered

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I highly regret switching from BCBS to Aetna. There have been nothing but issues the entire time; the most recent of which is the most problematic. For starters, there is no way to reach their "Billing Department" directly by phone. Why would this be a problem you might ask? Aetna's payment website is inaccurately reporting my payment history on two different screens on the same website. On the homepage, it shows that my coverage is delinquent and behind two months - (which is false.). On the payment history page it's showing one payment missing. Neither is true and to prove it, beyond my bank statements that confirm successful payments each month to Aetna, I heard from the billing department by email (the only way they can be reached) at the beginning of this month who acknowledged the error on their end, said they'd tracked down the "missing payment" and that my account would be updated. Has it happened yet? No, as of today I had to cancel a doc's appt because they said they were receiving an error code that I was not insured. Aetna's customer service, on THREE different phone calls today all told me my coverage was still active and they just needed to reach billing to update my account and they'd call me back. THREE PROMISES, from THREE DIFFERENT REPS, and guess what, no returned phone call! Utterly ridiculous that a corporation of this magnitude has no way to reach billing by phone, escalate calls to a supervisor or responsibly hear back from them when your health is on the line and the error belongs to them. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Aetna.

I changed the billing from monthly to quarterly. That way I will remember to make the payment . It is quick and easy because there is not a copay to your primary doctor. This is a nationwide known insurance so you are covered

They're stalling and taking forever... again.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
So a few months ago I posted about Aetna not having actually paid my medical bills like they were supposed to after having to escalate all the way to external reviewers and have the reviewers declare Aetna was required to cover my medical expenses. They then covered... part of them, trying to make me pay for half (well above my out-of-pocket maximum). I called them up, and had a joint call between them and my health provider that emphasized that they were on the hook for all of it except for my max out of pocket. They're trying to put me on the hook for early forty thousand dollars! They said they'd have it covered by March 16th. I gave them till March 31st already, and when I called them up to check what's going on, they said, "Oh, the status is still pending"... like... wtf, my care provider is getting impatient and edging on sending $40k targeting me to collections, ruining MY credit and SAVINGS over THEIR unwillingness to do their CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS. This is slimy beyond slimy.

I had a medical procedure that was done. Had even jumped through all the legal hoops that said they had to pay. My expensive medical procedure was finally covered... until they decided it wasn't.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had a 100k medical procedure that needed to be done. They tried to get out of it time and time again, until I got third party reviewers and government agencies involved that basically forced them to cover it. It finally looked like it was covered, but the next year, I see a sudden 39k bill from my old hospital (I had recently moved), and it was that old procedure they should have covered. Apparently they were trying to weasel out of paying again, and had somehow convinced the clinic to charge me for it instead of them to the tune of $39,000... WELL above my maximum out-of-pocket (which was about $6k as memory serves). Now, after a long legal battle to solve this exact issue, it looks like I'm going to have to do it all over again.
